The Way to Liberty — Volume 3: State & Justice

Volume 3 of The Way to Liberty is the institutional heart of the experiment. Luc Arden imagines the rules of a society from the beginning, covering justice, taxation, education, healthcare, public administration, the environment and the prevention of war.

A READER’S GUIDE

Inside a fictional institutional world

Its twenty-four thematic sections ask what accountability means when power is exercised through institutions, how justice might remain accessible and how public resources could be protected. The proposals range from broad principles to detailed hypothetical systems.

The book also considers the role of AI in public administration and legal processes. Fictional technology such as PHAOS may assist analysis, but the author maintains an important distinction between support and independent authority to decide a person’s fate.

Taken together, the three volumes of Book III form a substantial fictional social thought experiment, with more than four thousand rules, principles and proposals. Familiar concerns sit beside topics rarely treated together—autonomous robots, implants, digital identity and limits on AI power. Its value lies in the scope of the questions, not in claiming that every answer is definitive.

The numbered proposals of The Way to Liberty belong to the fictional world of Libertalia; they are not legislation in force.
